Manousakis Winery- Nostos Romeiko Organic Dry White Wine 2024 Vintage

Over the millennia the Lefka Ori Mountains of Western Crete have absorbed the quiet life cycle for thousands of the island’s native flora. When you walk these mountains in the spring it takes you on a sensory adventure filled with the scents of rosemary, thyme, sage, lavender, and chamomile. In the fall, they descend back to the soil and are absorbed and thus the quiet life cycle continues.

The winery is the realization of Ted Manousakis' dream.  It began in 1984, when the hills around the village of Vatolakkos were still untouched by civilization and the wild herbs of Crete were abundant and fragrant. The philosophy at the Manousakis Winery is simple they believe in carefully and organically cultivating their vines to absorb this scent-filled terroir. This allows the flavors of the grapes combine with the herbs for an incomparable taste. Each bottle of their Wine captures the character of this island, and the slopes of the Lefka Ori.

Manousakis Winery Nostos Romeiko is a unique organic white wine crafted from the historic Romeiko grape variety, indigenous to Crete and traditionally grown in the Chania region. While Romeiko is a red-skinned grape, Manousakis Winery creates this wine in a blanc de noir style, gently pressing the grapes to produce a fresh and elegant white wine with remarkable character.

In the glass, it displays a bright lemon-green colour with rich, slow-moving legs. The nose is expressive and vibrant, revealing aromas of unripe gooseberry, citrus, grassy notes, white stone fruit, and delicate marzipan nuances. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and fresh, with lively acidity and intense flavours of white peach, citrus, and subtle minerality.

Produced from organically farmed old vines trained in traditional goblet style, the vineyards sit at elevations of 550–600 metres in deep clay loamy and calcareous soils in Crete. The grapes are handpicked before undergoing temperature-controlled fermentation and maturation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the wine’s freshness and aromatic purity.

Perfect as an aperitif or paired with oysters, ceviche, fresh seafood, salads, and Mediterranean dishes, Nostos Romeiko is a modern interpretation of one of Crete’s oldest indigenous varieties, showcasing Manousakis Winery’s innovative and terroir-driven approach to Greek winemaking.
