About the Winery
Astir X Winery is the result of a shared passion for wine and a deep connection to Greek heritage. The story begins with Vangelis and Stathis Xygkoros, born and raised in Kalamata. They grew up immersed in their family’s winery, established in 1930 by their grandfather, Vangelis, and later nurtured by their father, Takis. From an early age, they were steeped in the traditions of winemaking, developing a profound respect for the vineyards and the art of creating exceptional wine.

As they grew older, they followed in their family’s footsteps, combining the rich legacy of their ancestors with a thirst for innovation. Their mission became clear: to showcase the unique values, history, and rewards of cultivating the fertile lands of Kalamata and the Peloponnese through their wines.

Meanwhile, Vangelis Papaioannou from Kastoria and Stelios Mavromatis from Thessaloniki shared a lifelong bond forged in childhood summers filled with discovery and camaraderie. Though their paths led them to study, build families, and travel the world creating and sharing wines, their shared love for winemaking brought them together.

A chance reunion at an airport marked a turning point. Over a glass of wine, the four realized their shared vision and decided to embark on a new journey. That night, ASTIR X was born, a name that pays homage to the Xygkoros family’s original shop and symbolizes the "X" marking the treasure of their friendship and collaboration.

Today, ASTIR X Winery blends tradition with modernity, crafting wines that honour their heritage and express the rich terroir of Greece to wine lovers around the world
