"Kourabies Glikanisos", Greek Shortbread Pistachio Cookies with Anise

A classic Greek treat meets a classic Greek plant. Well known from ouzo, the traditional Greek aperitif, anise – also called aniseed – is a plant native to the eastern Mediterranean region and Southwest Asia. Anise is sweet and very aromatic, with a very characteristic flavour.

The seeds, whole or ground, are used in a wide variety of ethnic confectioneries. We have combined it with pistachio from the Greek island of Aegina, considered to be among the finest pistachios in the world.
Kourabies with anise is an ideal after lunch or after dinner dessert, the ultimate “summer” treat.

Many regions claim the origin of the recipe and every place has its own version, which it proudly passes on from generation to generation.

Our culinary journey through Greece in search of the recipe that would form the basis of our own, inevitably led us to the port of Kavala. Many consider the recipe from Kavala to be the “authentic” one and it is certainly the most famous and widespread of all.

Ingredients: Wheat Flour, Butter, Pistachios 14%, Caster Sugar, Baking Powder (Corn Starch, Sodium Bicarbonate, Trisodium Diphosphate), Anise Seeds (Without Preservatives, Artificial Colours & Flavourings).

Weight: 180g

Love the petite kourabies!

My family love these (as a treat) and was I was even more excited to see that The Greek Providore had petite kourabies. You will not be disappointed. Just as good as if you made them yourselves (which I haven't for years!!). Don't hesitate but give them a go - great also for when unexpected visitors drop in

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to be your go-to for Greek goodies and are so glad you love our selection, including the cookbooks. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to bringing you more of the best from Greece!
