First created by Spyros Metaxa in 1882, Metaxa’s roots run deep in Greek history. The silk trader-turned-distiller founded a distillation factory in Kifisia, near Athens, where he began blending Savatiano, Sultanina, and Black Corinth grapes. These grapes, twice distilled to 60% Alc./Vol., are then blended with aged Muscat wines from Samos and Lemnos—islands known for producing some of the world’s finest dessert wines.

Metaxa is famed for its star-rating system, where each star represents a year spent aging in oak. While most are familiar with their other versions such as 12 Star Metaxa Private Reserve takes things to another level, aging for an extended period to create a more complex, deeply rewarding spirit.
